Spewing forth from a haze of static were vocals thick with rage

‘A gentle hiss filled his ears.

‘He heard a button being pushed down. The noise receded.

‘ “Like what you hear?”

‘The voice was jagged, echoing as if its message had been recorded several times over.

‘ “The password’s in the chorus. We invite you to join us.”

‘A peal of bells playing a musical scale followed, only for the sound to shatter. The pattern repeated, escalating in tempo. There was the thwack of a heavy object repeatedly striking something fleshy, followed by cries of pain. This was swallowed by a rush of electronic dissonance, as if every machine ever created had gone haywire all at once. An accelerating beat emerged from this wall of sound like a panic attack. Spewing forth from a haze of static were vocals thick with rage.’
